Depending on their internship requirements and the available internship positions in our partner companies, prospective interns may work in any of the following (or other) disciplines during their Graphic Design internship with AIP:

• Visual Identity Graphic Design: this involves the design of the visual elements (such as color palettes and logos) of a brand identity; or, in other words, the use of images, shapes and color to communicate the intangible qualities of a brand.  

• Marketing & Advertising Graphic Design: marketing design has to do with creating visual assets for marketing and advertising campaigns. Marketing graphic designers usually create brochures, posters, banners and billboards, postcards and flyers, etc.

• Packaging Graphic Design: in packaging design, graphics is created for a company’s product packaging, such as beverage cans, food containers, boxes, etc. Packaging design is regarded as a very valuable aspect of marketing.

• User Interface Graphic Design: UI graphic design focuses on the creation of on-screen graphic elements such as buttons, menus, etc. to enhance a user’s visual experience. A UI designer works on web, mobile and desktop apps, as well as games, with the aim of balancing aesthetic appeal with technical functionality.

• Publication Graphic Design: in collaboration with editors and publishers, publication graphic designers create layouts for books, magazines, catalogs, newspapers, etc., using relevant typography, graphics, photography, and illustrations.

Most people are moved by what they see more than by what they read or hear. Businesses recognize this fact, and most are using it to their advantage by incorporating into their brand identity, marketing materials, and so on, visually stimulating elements which help to attract clients.

This means that as an aspiring graphic designer, the employment outlook for you in this field is quite bright, especially if you specialize in disciplines such as marketing/advertising graphic design, and user interface design. According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, graphic designer jobs in computer and similar fields are projected to grow by 20 percent from 2016 to 2026, while those in the advertising sector are expected to grow up to 21 percent by 2024.

The good thing is that graphic designers can work in a variety of organizations across several industries. They also have one significant advantage over professionals in some other fields, which is that, should they choose to work independently as freelancers, it will be easier for them to get clients, especially if they combine their graphic design skills with other related in-demand skills such as web design, social media, mobile programming, etc.
