Internship in Graphic Design

Asia is a bit of a late player with going online, compared to the West. However, this is actually an opportunity instead of a drawback. There are very few barriers to entering the industry, thus it is highly competitive. As companies scramble to go digital, there is a high demand for graphic designers to keep up with the market’s needs.

Due to the fast-paced nature of technology, recent experience and a portfolio is valuable to employers. A graphic design internship allows you to update what you studied with practical experience. You will also receive experience in customer relations, managing their expectations and dealing with their demands. To top it all off you will also gain international experience working in a foreign environment.

We can offer you graphic design projects at a professional level, which will give you more than freelancing work can offer. The experience and portfolio you will obtain by the end of your internship will boost your employability and make you an attractive candidate in a competitive digital market.

Past AIP Graphic Design interns have been involved and worked on the following projects:

  • Creating and designing brochures for marketing purposes, which highlights the company’s products and services.
  • Designing infographics for business development and financial data departments.
  • Creating company logos, designing company website layouts, and establishing innovative graphic ideas.
  • Updating existing company graphic material.
  • Assisting in brainstorming concepts for marketing projects and strategies.

Note that all AIP interns are given a personal supervisor who will train, monitor and guide you throughout your international internship experience.

Internship tasks will vary from company to company, as well as intern to intern. These are only examples of tasks that were carried out from previous interns.

AIP Graphic Design Internship Benefits

Students and young professionals who have never worked as a graphic designer in a professional setting will find a graphic design internship in Asia invaluable. During your internship, you will work on real design projects using various professional design programs such as Adobe Photoshop; and in the process, you will gain experience and become much more proficient in these programs.

Graphic designers cannot do without a portfolio of previous work, especially as regards securing future employment. Our graphic design internship will give you the chance to build a portfolio of professional quality work which you can confidently showcase to clients and employers to prove your abilities when the need arises.

At the end of the day, an international graphic design internship will not only help you develop hard skills such as the use of professional graphics programs, but it will also enhance your creativity, and help you develop other soft skills, including communication skills, leadership skills, the ability to visually express ideas, and so on.

The Role of Graphic Design in an Economy

The power of graphic design lies in its ability to render complex ideals into visual symbols most people can understand and relate to, regardless of language or cultural differences. Due to the fact that it impacts individuals, environments, social structures, cultural identity, cultural development, and societies, design also plays a significant role in economies.

Graphic design as part of the creative economy (which is one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy) has proved to be transformative in terms of job creation and income generation. It has also directly or indirectly contributed to the quality of life and the overall well-being of communities, paving the way for inclusive and sustainable development.

Businesses will find it harder to get their messages across to their target audience or compel them to purchase their products or services without well-designed and relevant imagery. Attractive and meaningful graphics on a business’s website, social media channels, marketing materials, products, etc., therefore encourages consumers to patronize a business, making it more profitable and sustainable. Such profitable and sustainable businesses are among what an economy thrives on.

AIP Graphic Design Internship Scope Areas

Depending on their internship requirements and the available internship positions in our partner companies, prospective interns may work in any of the following (or other) disciplines during their Graphic Design internship with AIP:

  • Visual Identity Graphic Design: this involves the design of the visual elements (such as color palettes and logos) of a brand identity; or, in other words, the use of images, shapes and color to communicate the intangible qualities of a brand.
  • Marketing & Advertising Graphic Design: marketing design has to do with creating visual assets for marketing and advertising campaigns. Marketing graphic designers usually create brochures, posters, banners and billboards, postcards and flyers, etc.
  • Packaging Graphic Design: in packaging design, graphics is created for a company’s product packaging, such as beverage cans, food containers, boxes, etc. Packaging design is regarded as a very valuable aspect of marketing.
  • User Interface Graphic Design: UI graphic design focuses on the creation of on-screen graphic elements such as buttons, menus, etc. to enhance a user’s visual experience. A UI designer works on web, mobile and desktop apps, as well as games, with the aim of balancing aesthetic appeal with technical functionality.
  • Publication Graphic Design: in collaboration with editors and publishers, publication graphic designers create layouts for books, magazines, catalogs, newspapers, etc., using relevant typography, graphics, photography, and illustrations.
The Demand for Experienced Graphic Designers Worldwide

Most people are moved by what they see more than by what they read or hear. Businesses recognize this fact, and most are using it to their advantage by incorporating into their brand identity, marketing materials, and so on, visually stimulating elements which help to attract clients.

This means that as an aspiring graphic designer, the employment outlook for you in this field is quite bright, especially if you specialize in disciplines such as marketing/advertising graphic design, and user interface design. According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, graphic designer jobs in computer and similar fields are projected to grow by 20 percent from 2016 to 2026, while those in the advertising sector are expected to grow up to 21 percent by 2024.

The good thing is that graphic designers can work in a variety of organizations across several industries. They also have one significant advantage over professionals in some other fields, which is that, should they choose to work independently as freelancers, it will be easier for them to get clients, especially if they combine their graphic design skills with other related in-demand skills such as web design, social media, mobile programming, etc.
