Bali Overview

Bali is a province of Indonesia consisting of the island of Bali and a few smaller neighboring islands. Located on the east of the island of Java and with Denpasar as its provincial capital, it is also the most popular tourist destination in Indonesia.

The island of Bali has a population of about 4.225 million (2014), and to the aspiring intern who is also a lover of art, it has so much to offer; for the people are well known for their highly advanced arts, such as painting, sculpture, metalworking, leather, music, and poetry.

Due to the fact that Bali is a popular tourist location, its economy is mainly based on tourism and agriculture.

With tourism-related businesses making up 80% of its economy, the tourism/hospitality industry is now the largest single industry in Bali in terms of income.

Salary & Cost


Although most Indonesian companies will offer to cover transportation or accommodation costs for you to compensate for the absence of monetary benefits, there are a few exceptions where specific skills or knowledge are in high demand. With or without your receival of financial reimbursements from your host company, we highly advise you to budget your expenses properly!

Your overall spending varies depending on your lifestyle and where you are during your internship in Indonesia. In Jakarta, where modern shopping malls, high-end restaurants, and unique attractions are, you can expect the cost of living there to be pricey. If that does not interest you, move further to the right to Bali and you will find absolutely everything at least 10 times more cost effective.

Even so, the standard cost of living in Indonesia is considered to be one of the lowest in southeast Asia through our Asia Internship Program. This means that if you correctly manage your finances, you can be spending your holidays going on several trips in Indonesia! Ultimately, the archipelago country is known to be one of the best places on the planet to engage in adrenaline-inducing outdoor activities and enjoy some of the most stunning getaway destinations… whether that be on top of the mountains, in the forests, or by the sea.

Visa information

Indonesia offers a Social Cultural Visit Visa, which allows applicants to enter with a single-entry for social/cultural visits, exchange between educational institutions, undertaking research, and attending training programs.

The Social Cultural Visit Visa will allow you to stay for up to 60 days, and an additional 4 months extension is possible. Extensions can be applied for and obtained in Indonesia from the local immigration authorities. Visa fees and requirements vary by country, so please check with your local Indonesian Embassy to make sure you are able to apply for this visa.

Our process

1. Apply
Click "Apply Now", fill the form and schedule an interview to discuss your dream internship.
2. Interview
During your interview, one of our AIP representatives will ask you questions about your background, past work experiences, internship preferences and goals.
3. Pay Deposit
If you are officially accepted into AIP, you will be asked to confirm your spot in our program with a deposit fee.
4. Placement
Our experienced placement team will match you with your ideal host company and arrange an online interview for you with them.
5. Final Payment
Once your internship has been accepted by yourself and the host company, you will be invoiced for the final payment which will officially confirm your placement.
6. Prepare
After your payment confirmation: For remote internships: We will put you in contact with your host company so that you can start to work right away on your internship. For all the other AIP programs: We will assist you in the visa application process, as well as arranging airport pickup and accommodation (if applicable).
AIPx might be a suitable option for those that are in a hurry. Via AIPx, we will have a confirmed interview for you within 21 working days (The normal process can take up to 8 weeks).
