Do I need to speak Indonesian?
No. Our host companies in Indonesia work in English. Some basic Indonesian helps in daily life.
Which fields are strongest?
Business development, hospitality, supply chain, agriculture & food, environmental science and renewables.
Where will I live?
Furnished housing within about an hour of your office: Standard on Traveler (your own apartment), Premium on Pioneer (a private apartment to yourself, with your own bedroom and bathroom). Rent is paid by AIP up front, so you do not deal with landlords or deposits.
Overview
What it's like to intern here
Interns in Indonesia work in Jakarta or Bali. In Jakarta, host companies sit around Sudirman, SCBD and Kuningan, with agencies, trading firms and tech teams. In Bali, hotels, villas and tourism startups cluster in Canggu, Seminyak and Ubud. Hospitality interns support the front desk, guest experience and events, marketing interns plan content for hotels and travel brands, and business interns help with sales and partnerships.
Traffic in Jakarta is heavy, so housing is within about an hour of your office. Bali weekends mean surf beaches, rice terraces and volcano hikes, and Bandung and the Thousand Islands are easy escapes from Jakarta.
Why go
From Bali, interns hike Mount Batur for sunrise, walk the Tegallalang rice terraces and spend Sundays on the beach.
Lombok, the Gili Islands and Nusa Penida are boat rides from Bali, and Yogyakarta's temples are about an hour's flight from Jakarta.
Warungs serve nasi goreng, satay and fresh juice for a few dollars, and Jakarta's food streets stay busy late.

Where in Indonesia can I intern?
In Jakarta or Bali. Jakarta suits business, marketing and tech; Bali suits hospitality and tourism. Tell us your field and goals and we'll suggest the best fit.
What visa do I need for an internship in Indonesia?
Visa assistance is included in every program. We confirm your visa route before you pay the deposit and prepare the documents your embassy asks for.
Do I need to speak Indonesian?
No. We place you with companies that work in English. Learning a few words of Bahasa Indonesia is a nice bonus for daily life.
Where will I live?
Traveler interns get Standard housing: your own furnished apartment. Pioneer interns get Premium housing: a private apartment to yourself, with your own bedroom and bathroom. We vet every place, and it's within about an hour of your office by public transport. Explorer doesn't include housing, so you choose where you live.
What's included in Traveler?
Your placement, visa assistance, 24/7 emergency support, Standard housing, airport pickup and a pre-arrival orientation. A SIM card and a preloaded transport card come with Pioneer, not Traveler.
What else should I budget for?
