Doing Architecture
internship with AIP

The booming infrastructures in Asia make architecture a fast and dynamic developing industry that can offer you a unique and challenging experience. After all, Asia is home not only to ancient architectural wonders such as The Great Wall, Himeji Castle, Changdeok Palace, but also modern marvels such as Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple), Petronas Towers, Taipei 101, Marina Bay Sands, and BOC Tower.

Doing an internship in architecture will bring the classroom theory into practice. Obtaining real experience as an intern in this field will enhance your resume and make you stand out from other candidates in the same career field. During your internship, you can learn how construction, management, and design are done in the industry, both in the office and on site.

With our top-class architecture partner companies, we can provide a wide range of disciplines in architecture. These fields include Industrial Architecture internships, Landscape Architecture internships, and Residential Architect internships. Interior Design is also available as a separate category for those interested. With these wide ranges of disciplines, we can create a customized architecture internship based on your preferences.

Past AIP Architecture interns have been involved and worked on the following projects:

  • Involvement with the development of architectural proposals.
  • Assisting in architectural design processes.
  • Assisting and shadowing architects in construction drawings for commercial and residential buildings.
  • Research, PPT editing, graphics, and production support.
  • Creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional construction graphics with specialized software programs.

Note that all AIP interns are given a personal supervisor who will train, monitor and guide you throughout your international internship experience. Internship tasks will vary from company to company as well as intern to intern. These are only examples of tasks that were carried out from previous interns.

AIP Architecture Internship Scope

Depending on their internship requirements and the available internship positions in our partner companies, prospective interns may work in any of the following (or other) disciplines during their architecture internship with AIP.

Prospective AIP Architecture interns can specialize in the following areas:

  • Industrial Architecture: has to do with the design and construction of buildings serving industries. Buildings such as power plants, refineries, factories, breweries, sawmills, etc., are all developed by industrial architects. Industrial buildings became notably important during the Industrial Revolution, and are among the structures that gave rise to modern architecture.
  • Landscape Architecture: This is a broad discipline in architecture involving the methodical investigation of existing ecological, soil, and social conditions in a given landscape, as well as the design of interventions (such as outdoor areas and landmarks) to achieve desired environmental, aesthetic, or socio-behavioral outcomes.

  • Residential Architecture: Just as the name implies, this aspect of architecture (also called domestic architecture) simply involves the design and construction of residential properties, such as single-family homes, multi-unit residential buildings, etc.
AIP Architecture Internship Benefits

Just like in many other fields, a career in architecture can only be sustained by focused study and practical experience. During the period of your architecture internship in Asia, you will gain a lot of professional hands-on experience, while also studying the architectural history of the country/city you are in.

It will also interest you here to know that Asian architecture is one of the most notable in the world.

An architecture internship will give you the chance to apply/test many of the concepts you have studied in school, and to familiarize yourself with the scope of work obtainable in a professional practice setting.

In terms of obtaining employment, an architecture internship experience on your resume will demonstrate to employers in the industry that you are a driven individual who is willing to step out and seek professional challenges beyond what you have studied in school.

This makes it easier for you to get a lucrative job in the industry when you need it.

Overall, an internship in architecture will not only help you get your foot in the door in the industry, but it will also give you the opportunity to gain vital professional contacts, and set you on the path of notable accomplishments and recognition within the industry.

The Demand for Experienced Architects Worldwide

The skills architects possess, especially the experienced ones, are in high demand all over the world. As civilization progresses and societies develop, cities, spaces, buildings, and so on need to be designed and created.

More importantly, governments and individuals are beginning to realize the positive impact good architecture makes, and the need for using the services of experienced architects, especially when the goal is to achieve proper planning and construction of structures and landmarks, and an overall sustainable environment.

Today, skilled and knowledgeable architects are highly sought after by many architectural firms worldwide.

Due to this demand for expertise in the industry, you, as an aspiring or new architect, have to work hard to increase your knowledge and experience in the field. One of the most recognized ways you can do so is through an internship with big, established architectural firms.

Thankfully, with our Architecture Internship Program, you will be placed in one of such companies for a specified period of time so you can start gaining the experience you need to succeed.

The Role of Architecture in an Economy

In many professional circles, good architecture, which of course goes beyond the appearance of a building or space, is regarded as a contributor to economic development.

This is because fundamentally, it takes into account how healthy and sustainable a built environment is, and how efficiently it performs when put to test against several important criteria.

Positive urban landscapes and sustainable environments (in other words, healthy cities) have so far been identified as economic drivers. And rightly so because such cities continually create and improve the physical and social environments, while strengthening the community resources that enable people to provide mutual support to each other in carrying out their life’s functions and achieving their maximum potential.

For an architecture project to be sustainable however, the architect has to be part of a larger team committed to sustainable goals - a larger team that typically includes the government of a city which is responsible for implementing policies and encouraging certain types of development.

In other words, sustainable design is usually the result of synergy between architects, property developers, politicians, and even the public in general.

To drive economic growth therefore, any given architectural project must address social and economic contexts, provide an environment that attracts and inspires, and make economic sense.

Since well-thought-out and well-designed buildings/urban environments help to build human, financial and environmental capital, architecture can be regarded as a notable contributor to economic development.
