Engineering internships in Asia and beyond
Design, testing and production work with engineering teams in Asia.
Overview
What the internship is about
Engineering interns join manufacturers, construction and infrastructure firms, energy companies and engineering consultancies. You draw and check parts or layouts in AutoCAD or SolidWorks, run quality inspections, map production processes to find waste and write test and site reports. Mechanical, civil, electrical and industrial students all fit; tell us your branch and we'll match you to a team that uses it.
A week is often split between the design office and the factory floor or site, with safety briefings before you go out. South Korea and Singapore are our strongest destinations, followed by Japan and Malaysia.
Why do it
What you'll get out of it
Apply what you learned at university to design, test and improve systems and products. You'll see how engineering theory meets cost, deadlines and the factory floor.
See how design, production and quality checks fit together inside a company. You learn why a part that works on screen still needs testing before it ships.
You're part of the team, not just an observer. Interns plan tasks, solve problems and deliver work that the host company actually uses.
Your role
Help find ways to speed up production, cut costs and improve quality. Tasks include collecting data, mapping processes and testing changes.
Join a product team through every stage, from concept and design to prototyping and testing. You may use CAD tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Run tests and inspections, record results and help make sure products meet quality standards.

FAQ
Your questions, answered
What will I do on an engineering internship?
You'll help engineers design, test and improve products, machines or buildings. Tasks can include CAD drawings, simulations, quality checks and reports.
Do I need experience to get an engineering internship?
No. Engineering students in mechanical, civil, electrical, industrial and other branches can apply. Tell us your branch and we'll match you.
What skills and tools will I use?
Common tools include AutoCAD, SolidWorks and MATLAB. The company usually provides any specialist software you need.
Where can I do an engineering internship?
Popular destinations for engineering internships include South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan. Tell us where you'd like to go and we'll check what's possible.
Can I get university credit for my internship?
Yes, if your university accepts it: we provide the documents it needs (internship agreement, placement confirmation, supervisor evaluation and a host certificate of completion). Your university decides whether to give credit, and how much.
How much does it cost, and is it paid?
Programs start from $2,050 for 6 weeks on Explorer, depending on where you go. Most internships are unpaid.
In depth
- Draw and revise parts in CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Run tests and inspections, record the results and flag anything out of spec.
- Map a production step, time it and suggest where to save time or material.
- Help build and test prototypes with the product team.
- Research materials, suppliers or new technologies and write a short summary.
- Keep project trackers and reports up to date for your supervisor.
- Using CAD, simulation and data tools on real parts, not class exercises.
- Quality and testing methods that factories and labs use every day.
- Writing clear technical reports and presenting them to engineers.
- Planning work to deadlines inside a project team.
- Working in an engineering team abroad, with its own standards and habits.
- A clearer idea of which branch suits you: design, production, quality or R&D.
Mechanical, civil, electrical, industrial and other branches all fit. Tell us your branch and we'll match you.
- Japan: engineering is one of our strongest fields there, and we have our own office in Japan.
- South Korea: we place engineering and software interns, and we have our own office in Korea.
- Taiwan: engineering, software and renewable energy are among our strongest fields in Taipei.
- Malaysia: engineering and software placements in Kuala Lumpur, where daily life costs much less than in Singapore.
- Singapore: software engineering is among our strongest fields.
- Indonesia: renewable energy and environmental placements are among our strongest there.
