Engineering Internship

When you think about Engineering, Asia is probably not the first destination that comes to mind. However, Asia not only produces a lot of parts used in various fields of engineering but also has a booming industry with potential for more growth. Engineering and construction have soared side-by-side with economic growth, making Asia a prime location to further your career in this industry.

Engineering is definitely a field that benefits from gaining work experience, thanks to its demanding nature. AIP offers engineering internship in a wide range of fields, including: civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, and industrial engineering. Your internship will be styled depending on the field of engineering of your choice.

Real work experience is highly valued by employers, and an internship will provide you with tasks to practically apply your technical expertise. You will also be given the chance to develop skills such as planning, problem solving, communication, and field work. We will help you find the internship that will be the cornerstone of your engineering career.

Past AIP Engineering interns have been involved and worked on the following projects:

  • Utilizing AutoCAD to develop facility layout drawings of production and support areas.
  • Conducting studies and propositions for improvements to the overall process flow and spatial utilization based on lean manufacturing principles.
  • Testing prototypes and machinery, while writing reports to document the results.
  • Assisting and shadowing engineering managers with development of engineering schedules, budgets, projects, and quality assurance.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of parts catalogs, owner’s manuals, and operational instruction manuals for assigned products.

Note that all AIP interns are given a personal supervisor who will train, monitor and guide you throughout your international internship experience.

Internship tasks will vary from company to company, as well as intern to intern. These are only examples of tasks that were carried out from previous interns.

AIP Engineering Internship Scope

Depending on their internship requirements and the available internship positions in our partner companies, prospective interns may work in any of the following (or other) disciplines during their internship with AIP:

  • Electrical Engineering: This discipline has to do with the study, design and application of devices and systems which make use of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism.
  • Mechanical Engineering: This involves the application of engineering mathematics, physics, engineering and materials science principles in the design, manufacture, analysis and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Civil Engineering: Has to do with designing, constructing and maintaining the physical and naturally built environment. Civil engineers work on roads, bridges, dams, pipelines, canals, and so on.
  • Environmental Engineering: Environmental engineering uses a combination of several scientific disciplines such as ecology, geology, hydrology, chemistry and biology to craft solutions aimed at protecting and improving the health and well-being of living organisms.
  • Industrial Engineering: This engineering discipline is concerned with the optimization of organizations, complex systems and processes through the development and improvement of integrated systems of people, information, money, equipment, energy, etc.
AIP Engineering Internship Benefits

While theoretical knowledge in engineering is important and must be understood, the hands-on application of learned engineering principles and theories during an internship is second-to-none, and very, very necessary for young professionals looking to build a career in the field. Employers know this, and that is why the majority of them require an internship in the field as a prerequisite for employing fresh engineering graduates.

Engineering is a very broad field; every engineering discipline has different aspects to it, and this requires professionals in the field to specialize.

Do you enjoy getting your hands dirty at a construction site, or would you rather be making calculations and designing models on the computer? An engineering internship will help you discover what aspect of the job you really enjoy and are better at.

This discovery will then aid you in making a realistic decision as regards the area you will specialize on in your future career.

Finally, apart from giving you a deep insight into what you can expect as a professional working in the field, an international engineering internship with AIP will help you develop several skills which are a must-have for engineers, such as attention to detail, teamwork, innovation, self-discipline and resilience.

The Role of Engineering in an Economy

The importance of engineers as well as the role of engineering in an economy cannot be overstated. Behind every technology and innovation, we see and enjoy today, is (at least) one engineer specializing in any of the numerous engineering disciplines.

Thanks to engineers, today we can boast of high-speed internet capable of boosting productivity; well-built housing and sanitation systems for healthy living; good transport networks that make commuting for business and other purposes pleasant. And this is to mention but a few. In fact, engineering touches nearly every aspect of our lives.

By helping to build and maintain all this much needed physical and digital infrastructure, engineers play a vital role in various sectors, such as in research, manufacturing, food production, healthcare, etc.

There is no doubt whatsoever that there is a link between the engineering capability and economic development of any nation, and that engineering helps to fuel economic growth.

The Demand for Experienced Engineers Worldwide

Students, graduates or young professionals like you who have chosen a career in engineering can look forward to very good job prospects, as engineering is a broad field that plays an important role in many sectors of a society. What you have to bear in mind though, especially when choosing an area of specialization, is that certain engineering disciplines provide more opportunities than others today.

Due to the scale of modern manufacturing and its requirements for peak efficiency, industrial engineering happens to be one of the higher-demand engineering disciplines. This is not surprising as industrial engineers determine the fastest and most efficient ways for factories to use and manage their equipment, procedures and employees.

Electrical engineering is yet another field of engineering, out of several others, with brighter job prospects. This could be because it incorporates several other equally important engineering disciplines, such as electronics engineering.

Electronics is, of course, a significant part of modern life; electronics engineers even work on telecommunications and data communications equipment which are widely used today. And so the demand for engineers in the electrical/electronics field is projected to be even higher in the future.

Because they are primarily tasked with designing, constructing and maintaining most of the vital physical and digital infrastructure on which the world runs, and also maintaining the environment, civil engineers are also in high demand today, and young professionals in the field can expect a bright future.
